90th ESFRI Forum: Key outcomes
The European Strategy Forum on Research Infrastructures (ESFRI) held its 90th virtual meeting on December 12th and 13th, 2024, online.
ESFRI Roadmap 2026
Ms. Gelsomina Pappalardo, ESFRI Vice Chair and Chair of the Roadmap group working on the Roadmap 2026, presented to the delegates and update on progresses and further actions. Ms. Pappalardo also gave the delegates an overview of the successful Roadmap 2026 Information day that took place in Brussels, on October 8th.
ERA policy agenda and Research and Technology Infrastructure Strategy
The EC summarized the latest discussions regarding RI in the upcoming ERA policy Agenda 2025-2027. An action on RIs was highly supported by MS/AC and other stakeholders. The EC also announced to the Forum the coming European Strategy on Research and Technology Infrastructures. This common strategy will contain both crosscutting actions common to both RIs and TI and specific actions tailored to RIs and TIs.
Workshop on ESFRI for a new ERA
Mr. José Luis Martínez, ESFRI Chair, informed the Forum on the preparation for the upcoming workshop “ESFRI for a new ERA” to be held in Brno on March 31st – April 1st, back-to-back with the 91st ESFRI Forum meeting. This workshop is a regular exercise done in ESFRI to discuss on ESFRI´s strategic role in the pan-European RI ecosystem and follows the workshop held in London, 2019 (Future Directions of ESFRI), La Palma, 2019 (ESFRI Workshop on the Future of Research Infrastructures in the ERA) and the publication of the ESFRI White Paper in 2020.
3rd ESFRI Stakeholder Forum Meetup
The ESFRI Chair discussed the upcoming 3rd ESFRI Stakeholder Forum Meetup scheduled to take place on 10-11 June 2025 in Kraków, Poland, during the Polish presidency of the Council. This new meetup follows the two previous Stakeholders meetings in Brussels (2022) and Tenerife (2023). The meetup will bring together key stakeholders to discuss innovative solutions and best practices to support the long-term sustainability of the Research Infrastructure ecosystem.
ESFRI-EOSC Task Force
Recognizing the importance of this Task Force the Forum agreed to extend its mandate for two additional years. To ensure continuity and liaise with the ESFRI executive Board Mr. Jan Hrušák and Ms. Elena Hoffert (both ESFRI Executive Board Members) will continue being the representatives of ESFRI in the task force. Briefly, the general objective of the ESFRI-EOSC Task Force is to align collective interests and maximize the impact of efforts towards enabling an integrated ecosystem of Research Infrastructures that would feed into a dynamic EOSC federation.
