ESFRI Position Paper on Framework Programme 10
10.12.2024

The European Strategy Forum on Research Infrastructures (ESFRI) has published its position on the upcoming Framework Programme for Research and Innovation (FP10), emphasizing the critical role of Research Infrastructures (RIs) as strategic assets.

RIs drive EU competitiveness and advance the European Research Area (ERA) through excellent research and innovation, but also contribute to industrial competitiveness, job creation, economic growth, and the EU's strategic autonomy. They inform policymaking, tackle societal challenges, attract talent, and strengthen Europe’s scientific influence and sovereignty.

To tap into its full potential RIs must be seen and enhanced as strategic assets in policy making and across borders of sectoral domains to contribute to the European strategic agenda and the full realisation of the European Research Area. Therefore, RIs should be considered not only as a cross-cutting element of the Framework Programme for Research and Innovation (FP10) but of the entire EU endeavour.

ESFRI highlights the need to enhance RIs as cross-cutting elements of FP10 and broader EU policies to unlock their full potential in advancing knowledge, promoting open science and shaping a strategic European agenda.
