The new National Roadmap for French Research Infrastructures is out
The Ministry of Higher Education and Research has published the new ’Strategie Nationale des infrastructures de recherche, edition 2016’ report defining its strategy for French National Research Infrastructures. The Roadmap is the result of important work done by the Ministry and incorporates the vision of a French National strategy which is in line with the development of the European Research Area.
The first French National Roadmap for Very Large Research Infrastructures was published in 2008 and then updated in 2012 and 2016. The new roadmap includes 95 research infrastructures which fall into 9 main scientific fields: Humanities and social sciences, Earth system and environmental sciences, Energy, Biology and health, Material science and engineering, Astronomy and astrophysics, Nuclear and high- energy physics, Digital science and technologies and mathematics, Scientific and technical information. The Research Infrastructures included are grouped into 4 main categories: international organisations, very large infrastructures, research infrastructures, projects.
Thierry Mandon (Secrétaire d’État chargé de l’Enseignement supérieur et de la Recherche) introduced the new Roadmap pointing out that ‘France has actively participated in updating the new ESFRI Roadmap on Research Infrastructures in Europe -officially published in March 2016-, and has accordingly revised its domestic facilities. The new French National Roadmap has been the outcome of intense activity in close co-operation with European partners and institutions. This document includes analysis of the major research areas and a guidance strategy for years to come'.
