Finland assesses benefits of international RI memberships

Finland, an active member in around 30 international Research Infrastructures (RIs), pays an annual membership fee of approximately 20 million Euros through the Research Council of Finland. To evaluate the advantages of these memberships for Finland's research, development, and innovation activities, the Research Council conducted a biennial questionnaire from June to October 2022.

The questionnaire collected crucial background information and yearly statistics for 2020-2021, covering aspects such as staff, budget, users, publications, and private sector collaboration. By analyzing the responses, Finland aims to identify and assess the added value of participating in these international RIs, supporting evidence-based decisions for future cooperation.
